Beer Apron

February 28, 2009

I love this!  I am going to ask one for mother’s day…

What ever mother needs… It can also be used to hold that baby bottle, right?

Or what a great gift for use at a BBQ or outdoor gathering!  Drink in pocket = more hands for baby!

From Amy D…

The beer apron is back!  This is an apron with a special pocket to hold your favortie beverage.  Be it Columbus Pale Ale, or Grape Soda!

You may remember the 2007 version.  This has some upgrades.  The best new feature, is that the new version has a flat bottomed, firm, pocket.  There is an insert that holds your beverage on a firm setting.  No sagging.  Also, the pocket is double-layered.

I like to have a cold drink when I’m getting dinner ready for my tribe, so this solves my dilemma of “where did i leave my beer???”

This one is made from a rescued, heavyduty cotton tablecloth

To SAHM or not to SAHM…

February 27, 2009

So, this is a continued debate, in the news, in my books, on the tele, in my head.  Working Mom (W.M.) or Stay at  Home Mom (SAHM)?  That is the question.

It is an interesting debate.  Both sides have valid reasons.  From what care is better, to which is better for your immune system, to whos is more social, to what your role of a mom is.

And everyone of these women are right.  There is no right answer.  It just has to be the right answer for you.

When I finished Allison Pearson’s “I Don’t Know How She Does It, The life of Kate Reddy”, the character of Kate does this same debate.  Working mom with nanny, husband, and keeping up with the Jones, and how it affects her life.  I will let you know I was read it hoping for it to end the way I wanted it to.  I don’t want to give the ending, but I will say this, well, I can’t say much more, because I don’t want to give the ending.  If you read it, comment and we can discuss!

Running of the brides

February 27, 2009

Okay, is this crazy?  The Today Show is filming the Running of the brides.  It has been less than 2 minutes and the majority of the racks are empty.  There is one crazed woman who is just making a pile of like 10 of these big white dresses.  This other poor girl is dragging a dress to what I assume is a changing room.  2 minutes and the racks were empty.

Why do I think this is crazy?  Is it the screaming women?  Is it the running to try to get a sale?  Is it the line up for a deal?  I don’t know.  Are these the same people who line up at WalMart on black Friday for the 5am deals?  Are these the same people who line up at 4am on Black Friday for Kohls?  Or is it just that the wedding business is insanely expensive and you have to fight to get a good deal for your “perfect white wedding”.

According to an article in CNN Money, the average cost of a wedding is $26,000.  Ouch.  But whay does it need to be so much?  Now, I got married 5 years ago, and yes it was expensive, but it wasn’t that expensive!  But we were creative and cut costs.  But I have been to several beautiful weddings since, and not only do they cost the bride, but they cost the bridal party and guests money too.  I know it’s a business, but that’s a lot of money!

I guess part of my problem is that I see the media playing up the perfect wedding, how expensive (and necessary) it is to have this all.  But then again, it’s a great party – and I have a friend who is planning one now, and I wish her luck.

But enough about this topic.  I think I am addicted to the Today show.  (Now there is the creator of Facebook on)

Single, jobless parent of 14…

February 26, 2009

Are you tired of hearing about this mom of the octopulets?  First of all, I think Nadya is enjoying her moment in the spotlight.  Second of all, I think that the doctor who implanted her was very irresponsible.

After struggling with my own infertility, me and DH (darling husband) looked into in vitro.  Our doctor talked with us about it, and she assured us that there might be multiples, but that they only fertilize a maximum of 3 eggs beacuse of the chance of multiple births.  What quack doctor did Nadya go to???  Plus, there is the pain and hormonal ups and downs of those fertility drugs.  We did not even get to the in vitro part because the fertility drugs before hand were so terrible!

Plus, there is the fact that one newborn is trouble enough, but can you imagine 8!  with 6 more at home!!!  You can’t do that alone!  Little man when he was born wanted to feed every hour and a half.  So, DH and I went from feed, diaper, rest, feed, diaper, rest for the first week.  I can’t imagine with 8.

But, I figure in today’s media world, I will wait to see TLC’s tv show on her – and she is enjoying her 15 minutes of fame.  I forsee NBC doing a show 10 years from now on her family.  Unless, the hospital decides that they can’t release the kids, and then children services gets involved, and then the children will be sent to foster homes, and…. please hear me, I am not saying that Nadya is a bad mom.  I am just thinking that 8 is alot to handle alone.

The beginning

February 26, 2009

From our friends at Wikipedia:

Swami (Sw.) (Sanskrit: स्वामी, Svāmi, IPA: [sʋáːmi]) is primarily a Hindu honorific title, for either males or females. It is derived from Sanskrit and means “He who knows and is master of himself”, “owner of oneself”, or “free from the senses”. It is a title added to one’s name to emphasize learning and mastery of Yoga, devotion to the gods, and devotion to the swami’s spiritual master (a guru or another swami).

To this I am naming this blog, Swami Mami.

Why? As a mother of a toddler, I am not the master of myself right now. And as I am going through a job transition, I may not be the owner of myself either. And as both of those things combined, I can’t afford to attend my fave yoga class. But since I have been practicing yoga for about 10 years, I feel connected to it even when I am not connected. I will not claim to be a guru. I am not. I do not claim to know all. I am learning everyday. (as we all are.)

So, I hope you join me on this process. The process of non-still life with toddler. And how does a working mom go into this transition? I don’t know. This too is a process. Enjoy.
